The
Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a man, Dayo Abdullahi, before
an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a car battery.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the
battery, which belonged to one Musa Sanud and valued at N14,000, was
allegedly stolen at about 6.30am at the Ojota area of the state.
The charge read, “That you, Dayo
Abdullahi, of no fixed address, on July 21, 2015, at about 6.30am at
Ojota, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal a Volvo car
battery, valued at N14,000, property of one Musa Sanud, and thereby
committed an offence punishable under Section 285 of the Criminal Law of
Lagos State, 2011.”
The defendant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to one year imprisonment by the magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat.
However, in a dramatic twist, Abdullahi
allegedly attempted to escape from custody, while his papers were being
processed at about 2.40pm.
It was gathered that the convict attempted to escape by breaking the ceiling of the court cell where he was kept.
The 40-year old was, however, apprehended and arraigned again before the court on two counts of felony.
The charges read in part, “That you,
Dayo Abdullahi, of no fixed address on July 21, 2015, at about 2.40pm,
at Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Ogudu, in the Ogudu Magisterial District,
being a convict and while in the Ogudu court cell, did attempt to commit
felony to wit; escape from lawful custody, by climbing the court
ceiling and breaking it and thereby commited an offence punishable under
Section 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011”.
The defendant pleaded guilty, and was sentenced by Sule-Amzat to another year imprisonment, making two years in all.
