OMG!! Glo, MTN pay musicians N9bn royalties
The
two biggest mobile telecommunication operators in the country, MTN
Nigeria and Globacom, generated over N9bn for the local music industry
in 2014 through the monetisation of caller tunes.
While MTN generated over N5bn for the
Nigerian musical artistes who sell their contents as caller tunes on its
platform, Globacom is said to have brought in about N4bn.
The money generated for the industry was
in form of royalties paid to music artistes who served or are still
serving as brand ambassadors to the two telecoms companies in the year.
The
Glo music ambassadors, whose contracts were recently renewed, are
Nigeria’s leading music stars, Peter and Paul Okoye (PSquare), Oladapo
Oyebanjo (D’Banj), Chinedu Okoli (Flavour), Jude Abaga (M. I.),
Oluwatobi Ojosipe (Wande Coal), Omawumi Megbele, Bez Idakula, Burna
Ogulu (Burna Boy), Ego Ogbaro and Sammie Okposo.
Globacom also signed on hip hop
sensation, Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, after he
terminated his contract with MTN. It also signed on the Mavin crew of
Koredo Bello, Reekado Banks and Hadizah Blell (Di’ja).
However, the leader of the Mavin Group,
Michael Ajereh (Don Jazzy) leads other music artistes on the MTN
network. He is joined by Tiwa Savage, Sidney Esiri (Dr. Sid), Olanrewaju
Fasasi (Sound Sultan), Iyanya Mbuk, Chidinma Ekile, Bankole Williams
(Banky W), Kingsley Okonkwo (KCee) and David Adeleke (Davido).
MTN also recently signed on the visually impaired music artiste and producer, Cobhams Asuquo.
Our correspondent obtained the figures
from the telecommunications companies on Wednesday, amid plans to
announce an on-demand music service.
An employee in the Corporate Affairs
Division of Globacom, who pleaded anonymity, said that apart from paying
“about N4bn in form of royalties to Glo music ambassadors, Glo plans to
lead the music streaming business in the future, which valuation is
estimated to be about $8.5bn (N1.7tn).”
He said Globacom’s interest in the music
streaming business might be due to the decline in digital download
business, adding, “The streaming business is projected to grow at almost
40 per cent annually and will probably be over $2bn (N393bn) business
in 2016.”
It was gathered that the new and rising
stream of revenue for the telecoms firms might have accounted for the
recent scramble for top music artistes in the country by both Globacom
and MTN.
While MTN declined to renew the
contracts of some of its music brand ambassadors last month, Globacom
quickly poached them with higher bids.
However, aside the over N5bn generated
for the music industry, MTN said the brand ambassadorship, appearances
and performances fees made for the artistes amounted to over N500m.
“MTN has invested more than N1bn in
talent discovery and development through the Project Fame sponsorship
platform,” the company’s General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Miss Funmi
Onajide, said.
“The recent rebasing of the country’s
Gross Domestic Product puts the contributions of the entertainment/music
sector at $7bn (N1.4tn) of the total value of $510bn (N100.4tn). This
represents 3.7 per cent contributions to the total GDP growth,” she
added.
According to her, MTN’s leadership contribution in the sector has impacted positively on the lives of Nigerian creative talents.
Onajide stated that beyond music, “MTN
has also made significant investments, partnerships and contributions to
helping to address distribution and monetisation challenges of other
creative talents.”
The Managing Director, Universal Music,
Sweden, Per Sundin, had in December 2013 urged telecoms firms in Nigeria
to take to streaming the contents of their music ambassadors “rather
than just serving as ring tones.”
“I am 100 per cent sure that this is the
future. Streaming services will be the next step for global music
consumption,” he had said.
Psychiatrists desert hospital over recurrent attacks from lunatics
Doctors at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric
Hospital, Yaba, have cried out over recurrent attacks from mentally
challenged patients at the hospital.
The psychiatrists, who are on strike to
protest issues of insecurity at the federal hospital, told our
correspondent that many of their colleagues had suffered severe injuries
due to violent attacks from their patients.
The President, Association of Resident
Doctors of the hospital, Dr. Jeje Oyetayo, said that doctors had to
embark on an indefinite strike after the last attack on two female
doctors at the outpatient unit of the hospital in June.
She said, “Patients have attacked
doctors severally at the hospital and we don’t have trained security
personnel to address this. But the last one was on the 5th of June, two
female doctors were attacked such that consultants had to come and save
them.
“The patient took an iron rod and
started running around with it and there were no security officials.
Patients get violent occasionally but the norm is that there should be
trained personnel that can disarm them.
“I
mean they should hold their hands and subdue them. But if there are no
trained security personnel, the patient and the doctor can be injured in
the process of trying to douse the violent situation and it may
escalate.”
Oyetayo called on the Federal Government
and authorities at the hospital to quickly review the security
logistics with a view of protecting the lives of health workers while
delivering their duties at the hospital.
She said, “There are no escape routes
for health workers in case of an emergency such as when we have an
aggressive patient which could lead to harm to doctors, patients and
relatives.
“There is no functioning alarm system to
alert security officials for help in case of an emergency and even the
consultants have refused to run clinics due to the security challenges.
“The Federal Ministry of Health needs to
step in to avoid loss of lives as well as bodily harm to health workers
as well as patients and their relatives,”
Another resident doctor at the hospital
who spoke on condition of anonymity on Wednesday also complained that
they had to consult for their patients in an unconducive environment, a
situation, he said could encourage attacks from patients.
He said, “The chairs and tables in the
consulting rooms are rickety. Patients have to stand over doctors and we
know the danger of a psychiatric patient towering over anyone.
“Many times, we have six doctors
consulting for patients in a room structured for just one doctor and the
patient. Many terrible things happen under these circumstances.”
Our correspondent who went round the hospital on Wednesday observed that skeletal services were being offered.
The emergency and outpatient units which used to be filled with patients were almost empty as very few personnel were on ground.
The Medical Director of the hospital,
Dr. Rahman Lawal, admitted that the hospital was presently experiencing a
shortage of security personnel due to lapses in logistics.
Lawal, however, said that the attack on
the doctors in June was due the fact that health workers who should have
catered to patients at the emergency unit were on strike.
He said, “ We have been outsourcing
security needs for some time now and we are having problems with the
payment of our outsourced staff including security personnel. Some leave
without telling us they are going and it takes time to replace them.”

Pastor jailed for refusing to wed same sex couple
A pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, USA, has been
sentenced to one year in federal prison after refusing to marry gay
couples.
Still on the issue of Gay marriage, more and more Christians take a stand against same sex marriage, as they refuse to involved in anyway.
According to NBC, a pastor at the Christian Proctor Church in Vermont, USA, has been sentenced to one year in federal prison after refusing to marry gay couples.
This comes shortly after the Supreme Court’s 5-4 decision ruling that states must allow gay-marriage.
According to the criminal investigation, the Christian Proctor Church
is registered with the state as a “religious corporation” limited to
performing “one-man-one-woman marriages as defined by the Holy Bible.”
But
the church is also registered as a for-profit business and city
officials said that means the owners must comply with state and federal
regulations.
The Christian Pastor, 56-year-old Paul Horner, had his lawyer speak to reporters on his behalf.
The Christian Pastor, 56-year-old Paul Horner, had his lawyer speak to reporters on his behalf.
“We are currently disputing the guilty verdict and I am confident my client will be a free man here shortly,” said attorney Tom Downey. “Horner was just using his best judgement according to his rights and religious freedom in this country.”
The Honorable Myron Danus handed down the harsh sentence.
“Religious freedom goes both ways, Mr. Horner,” Danus
told a packed courtroom. “It is not your place to deny individuals the
same rights that everyone else has, rights that were passed down and
agreed upon in a court of law, the ultimate court, the Supreme Court. It is not your decision whether or not you agree with the law but more importantly that you follow it and enforce it.”
Steve Shand, president of the Vermont Family Research Committee, said it is “open season on Americans who refuse to bow to the government’s redefinition of marriage.”
“Homosexuals are gay,” Shand told reporters. “Why should Christian ministers be forced to perform and celebrate any marriage that conflicts with their beliefs? It’s a slippery slope my friend. Pretty soon these same pastors will be forced to wed animals or kitchen appliances. This is not my America!”
Gwen Hawkins who is president of the LGBT Pride Center in Vermont, said she is happy with the guilty verdict.

“We just want the same rights as everyone else and this guilty verdict sets a great precedent,” Hawkins said.
“These
fanatical Christians base their life on one verse in the Bible but they
seem to forget the other 99% of the verses in the book. For example,
why can’t we stone to death Bristol Palin for having a baby out of wedlock? And what about her mother, Sarah Palin,
breaking the rules of Corinthians 14:34 which clearly state that as a
woman, she is not allowed to teach or to assume authority over a man;
she must be quiet. But no, they like to pick the one verse in the Bible
about gay people and build their camp around it.”
Gwen Hawkins may have a point, as we sin everyday but crucify gay folks.
As the bible says, no sin is bigger than the other.

woman dressed Seductively to meet the Pope. Of course she was escorted out (see photos)
Busty Argentinian glamour model, Victoria Xipolitakis was yesterday
turned back from a lineup of people waiting to greet Pope Francis in
Asuncion, Paraguay because of what she wore (above)
The police were forced to escort her out following a public outcry by Paraguayans who found her dressing offensive. She wore this tiny white top without a bra making her silicon boobs very visible. Pics of her being escorted out after the cut...
This isn't the first time Victoria will be involved in a public uproar. Few weeks ago, two pilots were sacked from Austral Airlines after taking selfies with her in the cockpit and letting her take the controls.
She was also publicly rebuked after she posted a Photoshopped picture of her self with a false big butts six months ago. For several weeks Victoria had been trying to get a private meeting with Pope Francis because she says she wants him to forgive all of her sins.

Jidenna finally reacts to 'light-skinned' comment controvery...writes open letter to Nigerians
Last week, Nigerians dragged American-Nigerian singer Jidenna after he
said in an interview that light-skinned are more likely to be kidnapped
than dark
skinned people as they are seen as more valuable in Nigeria. Jidenna is
finally reacting to criticism explaining what he meant. Below is the
open letter to Nigerians he shared on his website
My
name is Jidenna, which means “to hold or embrace the father” in Igbo.
It was my father who gave me this name and who taught me countless
parables, proverbs, and principles that made me the man I am today.
These same principles helped me to write the record “Classic Man.” When I
brought home a 98 percent on a test, my father would say, “ah ah, where
are the other two points? Go and get them, then bring them back.” My
father and Nigerian culture has always stood for excellence. While the
majority of my childhood memories are beautiful, I also have experienced
the challenges that Nigeria has faced since Independence.
To all my Nigerian brothers and sisters
I am, always have been, and always will be proud of my Nigerian heritage. I understand the pain and anger caused by some of the comments I made in a recent interview, and I wanted to address you directly. Contrary to popular belief, this interview was not the first in which I mentioned Nigeria. In fact, I’m frequently bragging about how Nigerians attend the world’s most prestigious institutions, and how we are known to produce world class doctors, entrepreneurs, innovators, lawyers, engineers, professors, athletes and artists. Unfortunately, people tend to leave these moments out, and, in this case, highlight stereotypes. I would never do or say anything to intentionally disgrace the legacy of my father nor my fatherland. But to not relay my own story, both the good times and the bad, would be a disservice.
Jidenna and late dad |
When
I was 5 years old, my family was robbed at gunpoint, my mother was
beaten, family members were kidnapped, and I was shot in my foot. As is
the case with all kidnapping, targeting those who are perceived to be
wealthy is the objective. In this instance, my father was the target
because of his prominence in the community. This was a traumatic
experience for my family that would shape our entire lives and our
experiences in both Nigeria and America. As a little boy, I swore that I
would never let that happen to my family again. As my father often
said, “Once you’re bitten by a snake, you‘ll be ready to shoot a
lizard!” At the time of my father’s burial 5 years ago, my family in the
village was concerned about increased targeting for kidnapping since
the rate of abductions had increased dramatically in the area we are
from. We were traveling from America, which along with our biracial
appearance, had the potential to attract attention and pose a threat to
our security. In light of what happened in the past and the tense
climate at the time, my family took precautions to ensure our safety.
This was not an uncommon protocol at the time. I recognize incidents
such as these are not unique to Nigeria or the African continent, and
there have been significant improvements in the region since this
period.
In the recent interview to
which I’ve been referring, I shared my family’s experience traveling
from the States back home for the burial. In this interview, I used the
term “light-skinned.” When using this term, I was actually referring to
my immediate family’s mixed or biracial appearance. See, no matter what
language I use to describe my heritage, I’m certain that someone will
feel some kind of way. This is a larger discussion not meant for this
statement, but certainly derives from our colonial past and postcolonial
present, and in the States, from the days of slavery to the present
times. My comments about skin tone were related to the notion of
perceived wealth and value, not my personal beliefs. My point was never
to imply that biracial or “light-skinned” people are the only ones or
the most targeted group of people kidnapped, or that I myself was
wealthy at the time. Rather than focus on my perceived value, let us
continue to focus on the value of Nigeria.
There
is no question that Africa is playing a pivotal role in the future of
our planet and that Nigeria, with it’s booming economy and burgeoning
middle class, is a driving force. I will continue to play my role in the
Renaissance taking place in Nigeria and Africa at large. We may not
agree on everything, but know my heart is your heart, and my experience
is part of our collective experience.
Applicant Steals N50,000 From Prospective Employer During Interview
A light manipulated job applicant blew his chances of a job he applied for after he was caught with the school proprietor’s missing N50,000.
The incident occurred Tuesday in Bwari Area Council at a school affiliated to a pentecostal church whose general overseer doubles as the school proprietor.
LEADERSHIP learnt that the applicant, a Benue indigene, whose name was given as David, had earlier worked as security man for the school but voluntarily resigned shortly before the last general election and went back to his state.
Before leaving the security job he had introduced one of his fellow townsman to the school, who replaced him on the job.
The applicant returned to Abuja on Monday and went straight to the school to see if his job could be given back to him. He met with the school’s principal who quickly told him that the brother that replaced him performed his duty better and so they had no intention of taking the job from him. She however advised him to see the proprietor who was not around at the moment.
When the proprietor arrived at the school, Dave as he was called, who was squatting in the security house with the school’s security man was asked to go and see her.
In the course of interview Dave noticed the safe where the proprietor kept her money.
A source in the school said they could not tell the exact time the applicant went into the proprietor’s office and stole the N50,000 from her safe.
The proprietor returned to her office after going to inspector on-going work at the site of the school’s annex.
Shortly after she entered her office, she noticed that the money had been stolen and so she raised the alarm. All the staff were summoned to the proprietor’s office and informed about the missing money.
Immediately, search for the money commenced. every office was searched and the bags and briefcases of the teachers were also searched.
The school’s authority eventually decided to take the search to the security house where the applicant also had his travelling bag.
The security man who was combing the room, picked up Dave’s bag and opened it and to the amazement of everyone, the N50,000 fell out of the bag.
The proprietor who felt shocked but relieved that the money had been recovered immediately ordered the applicant out of the school’s premises.
The principal of the school who spoke with LEADERSHIP under condition of anonymity said the proprietor was advised to report the applicant to the police but decided against it saying she did not want the young man to languish in jail
Soldier Strips Female Workers Naked For Stealing (Photos)
According to reports, a Republic of Benin soldier named Corporal Chabi Séni stripped five girls Unclad and tied them to a tree after accusing them of stealing from their madam who owns a bar and who is his wife.
The soldier decided their punishment would be to parade them Unclad and have someone take photos of the girls while the bar manager is seen kneeling in the background.
I had to crop the girl’s Unclad bodies out of the pics but I will include his face.
Is there any way this man can get arrested for this?
That is the soldier with the manager kneeling.
As you can see, he’s looking at the Unclad girls. What a hopeless man.

Lekki robbery suspect sues police for N1m
One of the four suspects paraded by the police in connection with the March 12, 2015 robbery of the Lekki branch of First City Monument Bank, Ebi Tosan, has sued the police, seeking damages in the sum of N1m.
The twenty-year-old, who was arrested on April 5, 2015, claimed that it was unlawful for the police to continue to keep him in detention without admitting him to bail.
Tosan, who was paraded by the police along with three others – Duke Odogbo, 38; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; and Ekelemo Kuete, 30 – is therefore seeking a court order directing the police to immediately release him on bail.
The suspect’s lawyer, Chief S.W. Baidi, argued that his client’s continued detention without bail was an “infringement and curtailment of the applicant’s constitutional right to personal liberty, freedom of movement and presumption of innocence.”
He is seeking a declaration that his arrest, torture and continued detention by the State Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja, without bail, was a violation of his human rights, preserved by sections 34(1)(a), 35(1)(4) and Section 41 of the 1999 constitution.

Amos,
who said he had not been allowed to see his nephew since his arrest,
claimed that “the applicant is suffering on daily basis without access
to food, bath and other conveniences and he may die in custody unless
granted bail.”
The suspect had, on July 9, secured an
order of Justice Lateefa Okunnu of a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja,
directing the police to produce him in court on July 16.
On Thursday, however, when the matter came up, the police did not bring the suspect to court and his originating summons slated for hearing could not be heard.
Okunnu, while adjourning hearing of the application till October 22, however ordered that the Lagos State Attorney General should be joined as a respondent. She added that if there was any urgency, the applicant could appear before October 22 before another judge who will be sitting during the court’s annual vacation, which begins next week.
The original respondents in the suit are the Lagos State Commissioner of Police and the Officer-in-Charge of SARS, Ikeja, SP Abba Kyari.

five persons, including three policemen and a fish hawker, were
reportedly killed while several others sustained injuries during the

Cameroon bans women face veil over bombings
Cameroon has banned burqas (women face veil) in the northern part of
the country after two women, dressed in the religious garments, blew
themselves up last week in a suspected Boko Haram attack, a local
governor said on Wednesday.
The twin attacks in Cameroon’s northern town of Fotokol killed at least 13 people, the government said.
Governor of the Far North, Midjiyawa Bakari, said, “I took this measure because of the security situation prevailing in the region.”

Nigeria’ll support use of nuclear technology -Buhari
A statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, quoted the President as speaking during a meeting with visiting Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs, Mohammed Shariatmadari, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President was said to have told his guest that Nigeria welcomes this week’s agreement between Iran and the six world powers on its nuclear programme.
Buhari described the agreement as a major step towards ensuring peace and stability in the Middle East.

“President Buhari, who received an invitation from the Iranian Vice President to attend an upcoming Summit of Gas Exporting Countries in Tehran, remarked that it was in the interest of developing countries to maximize the use of their natural resources for the improvement of the living conditions of their people.”
Shariatmadari congratulated Buhari on his election and assured him of Iran’s support in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
“The government of President Hassan Rouhani of Iran advocates moderation and departure from any form of extremism,” he said.
FG unveils Pain Free Hospital Initiatives
The Federal Ministry of Health and the American Cancer Society have unveiled the Pain-Free Hospital Initiative in four pilot federal tertiary health facilities.
The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Linus Awute, who launched the project in Abuja on Thursday, said the project would improve access to essential pain medicines in Nigeria.
Awute said the initiative was a one-year hospital-wide quality improvement intervention to integrate pain treatment into service delivery by providing education for patients and staff, raising motivation, awareness and documenting pain levels.
“It will equip staff to assess pain and provide high quality first line treatment,” Awute said.
He said the initiative targets large national referral and teaching hospitals to provide simple accessible training for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care providers.
According to him, the four hospitals selected for the pilot projects are University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, University College Ibadan, University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital Enugu and the National Hospital Abuja.
“It is envisioned that the one-year pilot project will further refine the design of the project model for effective replication in other federal tertiary health facilities across the country,” he said.
Awute said in 2012, no fewer than 177, 000 people were estimated to have died in moderate or severe pains from HIV or cancer.
“In the same year, the utilisation of narcotic medicines such as morphine was enough to treat 266 people, representing 0.2 per cent coverage in pain treatment need.
“In response to this challenge, the ministry approved the collaboration with the American Cancer Society’s Treat the Pain Programme to improve access to essential pain medicine,” said Awute.
The permanent Secretary said morphine was now on the essential medicine list, adding that 19.2Kg of pulverized morphine was imported to treat 3000 patients in Nigeria.
He said the American Cancer Society ‘Treat the Pain’ would provide technical support to the ministry in this regards.
In her address, the Director Food and Drug in the ministry, Dr Vera Ogbechi, said the need for the morphine-equivalent analgesics in Nigeria was 1,122Kg.
She said this was based on the annual deaths from HIV and Cancer and not including pain from other causes.
Ogbechi said the collaboration would address challenges of availability of the drugs, insufficient clinical training, and poor access to health care.
72-year-old activist, mechanic arraigned for kidnapping judge
A
72-year-old veteran journalist and rights activist, Pa Ahmed Adoke, and
41-year-old mechanic, Mr. John Sule, were on Wednesday arraigned by the
Kogi State Police Command for allegedly kidnapping a state High Court
judge, Justice Samuel Obayomi.
Adoke, who is said to be related to the
immediate past Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed
Adoke, and Sule were arraigned before the Lokoja Chief Magistrate’s
Court II presided over by Mr. Alhassan Husaini. They were alleged to
have on May 25, along with others now at large, conspired, armed
themselves with offensive weapons and kidnapped the judge.
Obayomi, a resident High Court Judge of
Ebogogo in the Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State, was abducted
by three gunmen, all reportedly dressed in black on May 25. The victim
was released after 34 days in the kidnappers’ den.

During
the kidnap, the judge’s police orderly, Mr. Usman Musa, was shot dead
while the kidnappers drove away the judge in his Toyota Yaris car and
later demanded N150m as ransom for the victim’s release.
According to the Police First Information
Report made available to journalists in Lokoja, the accused persons
wielding AK-47 rifles and locally made pistols disguised themselves and
waylaid the judge on Ebogogo road, close to the court premises.
The FIR, which was read by the
Prosecuting Police Officer, Mr. C.S. Ayabatu, said that the gang
instantly shot Musa, who died on the spot.
They allegedly took the judge to an unknown destination only to release him after allegedly collecting a ransom.
The FIR added that the accused were
arrested on June 6, by a team of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad from
Abuja and brought to the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligence
Department, Lokoja.
According to Ayabatu, the two accused
persons all from Okene in Okene LGA of Kogi State, were charged with
criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide and kidnapping contrary to
sections 97(1) and 221 of the Penal Code Law and Part 1 section
3(a)(i)(ii) of the state Kidnapping, Thuggery and Other Related Offences
Prohibition Law 2010.
The accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offences.
Adoke’s counsel, Mr. Muazu Abbas, orally applied that the accused be granted bail.
But, Ayabatu vehemently opposed the bail application, saying the offences were not bailable.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr. Alhassan
Husain, in his ruling refused the accused persons bail and ordered that
they be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe.
Redeemed Church curses B’Haram, says insurgency’ll end 2015
The Redeemed Christian Church of God has cursed Boko Haram, saying the group will be defeated before the end of the year.
The church’s Head of Media and Public
Relations, Pastor Segun Adegbiji, said the church was concerned about
the safety of its members and was increasing security measures around
its parishes.
Adegbiji spoke on Wednesday at Redemption Camp in Ogun State, during a briefing on the church’s 63rd annual convention.
The convention, which is themed, ‘The All Sufficient God’, will hold from August 3 to 9, 2015.
While
fielding questions from journalists on the recent killings of six
members of the church by a suicide bomber in Potiskum, Yobe State,
Adegbiji said the insurgents had gone beyond their boundary.
He said, “We are passionate about the
safety of our members and indeed the safety of citizens of this country.
We prayed against Ebola, that it should get out of this country and
whether you believe it or not, God answered our prayers and it left.
Boko Haram is a monster and it will be defeated this year.
“We are working on the security of our
churches. If those people should attempt to do that next time, they will
be in serious trouble.”
A member of the church’s traffic
committee, Pastor Deji West, said the church’s new auditorium in
Shimawa, Ogun State, was the biggest in the world.
He said the 3 kilometres by 3 km arena would take no fewer than 12 million congregants at a time.
He said, “The current structure we have
is the biggest auditorium in the world because it will take about 12
million people at a time. In terms of naira and kobo of what it costs, I
don’t have the figure right now.”
Responding to the issue of the perennial
problem of traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway whenever the church
had programmes, the head of the church’s international office, Mrs.
Margret Boluwakole, said the church was not to blame.
She said, “Whenever there is traffic on
the road, people always blame us. We wish to state that it is the poor
state of the road that is causing traffic jam. We don’t hold congress on
the road.
“Almost every Friday, there is traffic on that road. There are several portholes on Ojodu Berger and Ibafo ends of the road.
“In fact, we sometimes repair the road
at the expense of the church and we don’t collect money from anybody.
